The 76ers returned home looking to take advantage of some momentum they gained from their 107-100 victory over the Houston Rockets on Saturday. Unfortunately the Sixers were plagued by something that they have struggled with over the past month and a half: poor third quarters. The Sixers went into halftime trailing by six but got outscored 33-21 in the third. It was too much for 76ers to overcome as they would go on to lose 111-99 to give the Hornets their 12th win of the year. Jrue Holiday had 29 points, 11 assists, and five rebounds. More here.
The Flyers have a new captain. In one of the worst kept secrets in recent memory, the Flyers made it official last night by announcing that they have named forward Claude Giroux as the 19th captain in Flyers history. Giroux now joins the likes of Clarke, Bill Barber, Eric Lindros, Keith Primeau, and Chris Pronger as captain of the Flyers. He had 28 goals, 65 assists, and 93 points last season. More here.
The Indiana Hoosiers entered the season as the preseason No. 1 team in the country. After a loss to Butler in mid-December the Hoosiers fell in the polls. Thanks to losses by Duke and Michigan over the weekend, the Hoosiers moved back up in the polls to No. 2. Unfortunately it does not look like that will last as they could not hold on to a halftime lead last night. Despite trailing at halftime, the Wisconsin Badgers outscored the Hoosiers 33-27 in the second half to win 64-59 over their Big Ten rival. More here.
