The Eagles stunned everyone yesterday when they hired Oregon head football coach Chip Kelly to be their new head coach. The Oregon athletic director came out 10 days ago saying that the coach would remain at Oregon and is not interested in the NFL… until yesterday. The 49 year old Kelly has dabbled in the NFL head coaching search before. Last year he interviewed and was offered the head coaching position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before turning it down to stay with the Oregon Ducks. The Bucs went with fellow college head coach Greg Schiano, of Rutgers, to lead their team this year. Kelly was 46-7 in four years as Oregon head coach. More here.
Manti Te’o was the feel good story of the fall. After losing his grandmother and his girlfriend in the same week in September, he went out and led Notre Dame to an undefeated regular season and a birth in the NCS National Championship Game. Te’o’s story was featured in publications like Sports Illustrated and he did interviews the week leading up to the January 7th game. Now, reports are that Te’o’s girlfriend never existed and it was a hoax. Te’o claims that he was the victim of the hoax. More here.
Just two days ago it appeared that Seahawks defensive coordinator would be the Eagles next head coach. He was in for his second interview but was allowed to leave for Jacksonville yesterday. Today it was announced that Bradley has accepted the job as Jaguars head coach. The Jaguars won just two games all year and lost eight of their 12 games by 16 points or more.
