The Flyers were on Long Island for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day matinee with the Islanders. The Flyers jumped out to a 3-1 lead through two periods thanks to two Matt Read goals. Unfortunately the wheels fell off in the third period as the Islanders scored two third period goals to force overtime and a shootout. It would take four shootout shooters but the Islanders came away with the 4-3 victory. More here.
The Sixers were in the nation's capital taking on the Washington Wizards in an afternoon matinee, as well. They trailed from the beginning and it only got worse. They trailed by as many as 21 but forged a late comeback going on a 13-2 run to cut the Wizard lead to eight but that was as close as they would come. Michael Carter-Williams turned in 31 points but the Sixers still fell 107-99 to the Wizards. More here.
Following the theatrics on Saturday night between the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames, the league stepped in. Canucks head coach John Tortorella was suspended 15 days without pay for attempting to enter the Flames locker room during the first intermission of Saturday's game. He will miss six total games.
