The Phillies signed centerfielder Ben Revee to a one-year deal worth $1.95 million. Revere had requested $2.425 million in arbitration while the Phillies offered $1.4 million. The Phillies no longer have any arbitration eligible players unsigned. In 2013, Revere batted .305/.338/.352 with no home runs, 17 RBIs, and 22 steals in 30 opportunities. More here.
The city of Philadelphia lost a basketball legend yesterday with the passing of Tom Gola, less than two weeks after his 81st birthday. Gola was a standout at La Salle College High School before headed to La Salle University where he won the NCAA tournament in 1954. He also won the NIT and an NBA Championship. He is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, La Salle University Hall of Athletes, and La Salle College High School Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife Caroline. More here.
The NFL held it's annual Pro Bowl yesterday in Hawaii and it featured four Eagles who made impacts on the game. DeSean Jackson opened the scoring with a 36-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter. Nick Foles went 7-for-10 for 89 yards and a touchdown en route to winning the Offensive MVP award but Team Rice beat Team Sanders in a relatively low-scoring affair, 22-21. More here.
