The Nets and Sixers were involved in a back-and-forth match that saw the Nets take a two point lead into the second quarter. The struggle continued in the second but the Sixers cut the Nets lead to one at halftime, 48-47. The third quarter was a pure disaster if you are a 76ers fan. The Sixers couldn’t buy a bucket while the Nets couldn’t miss. They would open a 23 point lead before they would close the quarter up by 22. They outscored Philadelphia 35-14 in the third quarter. The fourth quarter didn’t get out to any better of a start as they looked confused on defense and Damien Wilkins saw a lot of time in the second half which is never a good sign. The Cowboys had an opportunity to win the NFC East in Week 17 two consecutive years and lost both times. Yesterday, the Cowboys tried a shake-up by firing defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. Dallas’ defense finished 19th overall after finishing 31st overall two years prior when Ryan took over the defense. Ryan was upset but said “I’ll be out of work for like five minutes.” More here.
Flyers’ forward Danny Briere returned from Germany on January 6th after sustaining a wrist injury while playing for the Berlin Bears. Briere was slashed on December 28th and has not practiced since. General Manager Paul Holmgren said there was “a little bit of concern” when it came to Briere’s injury. Now Briere is expected to miss seven-to-10 days and will be out for the season opener on January 19th. More here.
The Redskins were blown out on Sunday and, in the process, their prized player, Robert Griffin III was injured in the process. RGIII will undergo surgery to repair his ACL and LCL, most likely on Wednesday. His timetable for recovery is still not solidified but expected to be six to eight months.
