The Phillies were dealt some bad news yesterday. The team announced that centerfielder Ben Revere will have surgery today performed by foot and ankle specialist Dr. Steven Rainkin at the Rothman Institute at Jefferson Hospital to repair his broken malleolus in his right ankle . He will be out for 6-to-8 weeks recovering. More here.
The Flyers have made splashes this off-season but yesterday they made one off the ice. General manager Paul Holmgren announced that former Flyers goaltender Ron Hextall will be returning to the team as as Assistant General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations. The 49 year old Hextall spent the last seven seasons with the Los Angeles Kings as Assistant General Manager and Vice President of the team. More here.
Major League Baseball held their Home Run Derby last night. Teams were picked by Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and Mets third baseman David Wright, neither of whom made it past the first round. The finals came down to the Nationals' Bryce Harper and A's OF Yoenis Cespedes (who was not an All-Star). Harper blasted eight home runs in the finals but Cespedes blasted nine and only used five of his 10 outs in the finals. Cespedes also hit 17 home runs in the first round which was the most of any hitter for two rounds. More here.
