The Flyers announced they have extended qualifying offers to defensemen Erik Gustafsson and Brandon Manning along with forwards Jason Akeson and Tye McGinn. Gustafsson had signed a deal with Avangard Omsk of the KHL so extending a qualifying offer retains his NHL rights with the Flyers. An interesting player not qualified is goaltender Cal Heeter who will become an unrestricted free agent tomorrow. More here.
The Sixers announced they have waived shooting guard James Anderson, he was due to make $981,000 this season. Anderson started 62 of the 80 games he played for the Sixers. The 25-year-old Anderson averaged 10.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 28.9 minutes per game last season for Philadelphia. More here.
The Phillies announced on Monday they will be implementing a pilot program at Citizens Bank Park for new metal detectors that will be implemented league-wide by the 2015 season. It was first reported back in January that Major League Baseball was making this standard. More here.
Eagles starting right tackle Lane Johnson tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and will miss the first four games of the 2014 season. Johnson, 24, was the fourth overall selection in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Eagles out of the University of Oklahoma. The versatile offensive lineman started all 16 games for Philadelphia at right tackle as a rookie in 2013. More here.
