The Phillies got back at it against the Cardinals last night at Busch Stadium. Rookie starter Shelby Miller was looking for his 10th win for St. Louis and was strong. Miller went six shutout innings allowing just three hits on one walk with six strikeouts. Allen Craig went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to pace the Cardinals to a 4-1 victory. More here.
The Baltimore Orioles bolstered their bullpen yesterday as they acquired Brewers reliever Francisco ("K-Rod") Rodriguez. Rodriguez is 1-1 with a 1.09 ERA and 10 saves this season. He will be the setup man for Orioles closer Jim Johnson who leads the majors with 35 saves this season. The Rodriguez deal also makes a thin reliever market even thinner. More here.
The Boston Red Sox locked up the face of their franchise yesterday. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia signed a seven-year, $100 million extension that will keep him in Boston through 2021. The deal will not kick in until his current deal expires following the 2014 season. More here.
