The Phillies were looking to rebound last night after fall 4-1 to the Cardinals on Tuesday night. John Lannan took the hill for the Phillies. Lannan got absolutely plastered on the mound last night going four innings allowing four runs on eight hits. J.C. Ramirez pitched the fifth inning for the Phillies and was worse allowing five runs on four hits. The Cardinals went on to win it easily 11-3. More here.
The Atlanta Braves, who have a seven game division lead despite poor play, have been dealt another blow yesterday. With star B.J. Upton already on the disabled list, the Braves lost pitcher Tim Hudson for the foreseeable future. Hudson broke his ankle when it was stepped on by the Mets' Eric Young Jr. It was unintentional but Hudson went down immediately. He will have surgery once the swelling subsides. More here.
The Tampa Bay Rays sent their ace to the mound last night at Fenway as David Price as they looked to rebound after Tuesday's 6-2 loss. Price was magnificent going the distance allowing one run on five hits while throwing only 97 pitches. He is the first starter since 1999 to throw three complete games with 100 or less pitches in a four start span. Rookie Wil Myers drove in two runs as the Rays cruised to a 5-1 win. More here.
