The Phillies ended their nine game road trip yesterday in Detroit looking to avoid their eighth straight loss. Jonathan Pettibone was pulled after five innings of work before handing the ball off to the bullpen which was a nightmare. Jake Diekman and Luis Garcia each gave up four unearned runs a piece in the sixth inning while only registering one out between the two of them. The Tigers rolled to a 12-4 victory. More here.
The greatest quarterback in Eagles history is going to officially retire from the NFL today and he will do it as a member of the Eagles. Donovan McNabb has a press conference scheduled for 10 am in which he will announce his retirement from the NFL sitting alongside team president Jeffrey Lurie. McNabb played 11 seasons for the Eagles leading them to a 91-62-1 record that also includes nine playoff wins. More here.
Derek Jeter returned to the Yankees lineup yesterday and did so in grand fashion. The Yankees captain went deep in his first at-bat of the game on the very first pitch he saw. Alfonso Soriano also homered for New York and drove in the game-winning run in the ninth inning as Mariano Rivera got the 6-5 win for the Yankees. Weird having all those names playing for the Yankees again in 2013, right? More here.
