The Phillies continued their series with the Padres with Cole Hamels on the mound. Hamels put up a gem throwing eight shutout innings allowing five hits with a walk and 11 strikeouts. He also went 1-for-2 at the plate but the Phillies couldn't get anything going and it was tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Reid Brignac bounced back from three poor at-bats to hit a walkoff three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to win it for the Phillies. More here.
Flyers general manager Ron Hextall announced on Wednesday center Sean Couturier is recovering after undergoing successful abdominal surgery on Friday. He has already begun is rehab and is expected to be back healthy in 5-6 weeks. More here.
Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee did some light tossing on Tuesday, the first time he has thrown since he was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a grade 1/2 left elbow strain on May 20th. Lee said his elbow is not 100 percent healed but he does feel better. More here.
The Flyers are looking to get younger this offseason and get more cap space. One way to do both would be to move Vinny Lecavalier. The Flyers are wasting no time testing the waters as they have had talks already with Lecavalier's agent about a move. They have no identified any specific teams or put together a list of place Lecavalier would want to go but the wheels are in motion. More here.
