The Phillies and Braves opened their three-game series last night in Atlanta. Cole Hamels threw seven shutout innings allowing five hits with two walks and six strikeouts but got the no-decision. It was tied 1-1 in the 13th when the Phillies blew the game wide open. Reid Brignac had another strong night at the plate going 3-for-6 with a two-run triple in the 13th inning and his first stolen base of the season as the Phillies rolled to a 6-1 win. More here.
Sixers guard Jason Richardson opted into his contract for the 2014-15 season by accepting his $6.6 million player option. Richardson has not stepped foot on the court for the Sixers since January 18, 2013. The 33-year-old played in exactly 33 games for the Sixers in 2012-13 before going down with a knee injury. Phillies pitcher Jonathan Pettibone will have exploratory surgery on his injured right shoulder. Pettibone has not pitched for the Phillies since getting optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on April 18th following a poor start in Colorado and has not thrown a pitch in a game since May 12th.
