The Phillies welcomed the Washington Nationals to Citizens Bank Park for Dollar Dog Night last night. John Lannan got his first start in two full months as he went five innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out four Nationals. Ryan Howard hit his eighth home run of the year in the second inning as he deposited Dan Haren's pitch in the upper deck. The Phillies led 4-3 with two outs and two strikes on Chad Tracy in the bottom of the ninth when Tracy took Jonathan Papelbon deep to tie the game. It was his first blown save of the year. The Phillies would pick him up in the bottom of the ninth as Dom Brown drove home Ben Revere for the 5-4 win. More here.
The Blackhawks and Bruins faced off in Game 3 in Boston last night. The two teams played an even, straight-up first period with no goals before David Paille opened the scoring 2:13 into the period with the fourth of the playoffs to give Boston a 1-0 lead. Patrice Bergeron made it 2-0 with his seventh of the playoffs on the power play. They headed to the third with a 2-0 lead and Tuuka Rask would step up to shut the door for the Bruins to give them a 2-0 win to take a 2-1 series lead. More here.
The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers are in serious trade talks surrounding Celtics forward Kevin Garnett and head coach Doc Rivers. Boston reportedly wanted guard Eric Bledsoe but the Clippers did not want to give up Bledsoe to see if he could work with Rivers and point guard Chris Paul. Boston seems to be shifting focus and trying to get Los Angeles to take back a some of their larger contracts to give the Celtics more financial flexibility. More here.
