The Phillies opened their series with the Marlins last night. Cody Asche continued to swing a hot bat tonight going 3-for-3 with his 10th double of the season but that was the only highlight for the Phillies. Casey McGehee had a strong night at the plate going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs in the first inning. Derek Dietrich put together a two-hit night going 2-for-5 including an RBI single in the ninth inning and a run scored as the Marlins went on to win 4-0. More here.
The Flyers announced on Monday they have traded winger Scott Hartnell to the Columbus Blue Jackets for center R.J. Umberger and a fourth round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. Umberger, who just turned 32 in May, returned to the Flyers after spending the first three seasons of his career in Philadelphia. In 74 games last year for the Blue Jackets, the center scored 18 goals and added 16 assists for 34 points. More here.
The Flyers announced on Monday they have re-signed forward Brayden Schenn to a multi-year deal. The terms and length of the deal were not disclosed. New Flyers general manager Ron Hextall said from the very beginning that retaining Brayden Schenn was the team's top priority for the offseason. Hextall was in the Los Angeles Kings front office when they drafted Schenn with the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NHL draft. More here.
