The Phillies opened up their seven game west coast road trip last night at Petco Park with Cliff Lee on the mound. Lee went 8+ innings allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out seven. He was in line for his tenth win of the year when he left the game in the ninth with runners on second and third with a 3-0 lead. Jonathan Papelbon blew his fourth save in his last five chances to allow the game to get to extras when Kyle Blanks would win it with his third RBI of the night for the Padres. More here.
The Chicago Blackhawks were looking to close out the Stanley Cup Finals last night in Game 6 in Boston. The Bruins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period before allowing Chicago to tie it in the second. With the game knotted at 1 with just under eight minutes remaining Milan Lucic put the Bruins up 2-1 with his seventh goal of the playoffs. With the goaltender pulled, Chicago's Bryan Bickell tied the game with just over 1:15 remaining on a gorgeous pass from Jonathan Toews. Just 17 seconds later, Michael Frolik's shot hit the post but Dave Bolland rammed it home to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead with just under 59 seconds remaining. Chicago would hold on for an improbable Game 6 victory and take home their second Cup in the last four seasons. More here.
The 76ers still have not named a new coach but other teams are beginning to find the men they want to run their team on a day-to-day basis. Scratch the name Brian Shaw off the Sixers wish list. Shaw, 47, will take over as head coach of the Denver Nuggets, who let reigning Coach of the Year, George Karl after going 57-25 this season. Shaw is a former player who has spent the last ten years as an assistant coach. More here.
