The Phillies sent Kyle Kendrick to the mound last night looking to bounce back after their tough 10 inning loss on Monday night. Kendrick had another stellar outing in which he was still pitching in the eighth inning. He went eight innings allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out six and didn't walk a batter. The Phillies offense came through behind four RBI from Dom Brown, who became the youngest Phillies (25 years old) to hit 20 home runs before the month of July. The Phillies went on to win 6-2. The Flyers have rid themselves of another burdensome contract. Yesterday the team announced that they would be buying out the remaining seven years of Ilya Bryzgalov's contract. Chase Utley has another reason to smile this morning. His alma mater, the UCLA Bruins, captured their first ever College World Series title last night with an 8-0 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs. They scored in five of the eight innings they batted and gave starter Nick Vander Tuig some run support. Vander Tuig was great as he went eight innings allowing no runs on just five hits while striking out six. He earned his 14th win of the season. More here.
