Jonathan Pettibone and the Phillies opened up a four game series with the Dodgers last night in Los Angeles. Pettibone got tagged for three runs in the first but settled down nicely eventually going six innings. The Phillies would fight back and take a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning on a Chase Utley home run but give it right back in the bottom half of the inning and go on to lose 6-4. More here.
The 76ers were wheeling and dealing last night at the NBA draft and they turned some heads with their big move. The Sixers traded All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday and the 42nd overall pick (ended up being PG Pierre Jackson from Baylor) to the New Orleans Pelicans for Kentucky center Nerlens Noel and a top-5 protected first round pick in 2014. That gave the 76ers two first round picks in this year's draft and two first rounders in next year's draft, which is thought to be deep. More here.
The Sixers weren't the only team making moves at the draft. The Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets pulled off a blockbuster of their own. The Celtics traded Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Jason Terry to the Nets in exchange for Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, MarShon Brooks, Keith Bogans, Kris Joseph and first round picks in 2014, 2016, and 2018. Humphries has an expiring contract. More here.
