Yesterday was Selection Sunday and it was a joyous one in Philadelphia. Three of the Big 5 teams are going dancing. The Temple Owls are the No. 9 seed in the East. They take on the NC State Wolfpack, who beat Duke earlier this year, at 1:40 pm on Friday afternoon. Villanova was dealt a tough hand as they are also a No. 9 seed in the South and take on North Carolina at 7:20 pm on Friday. The bubble team in the city, La Salle, is going dancing for the first time since 1992. They are in the play-in game to be a No. 13 seed in the West. They play Wednesday night at 9:10 pm. More here.
The Miami Heat were looking to extend their winning streak to 22 games yesterday as they took on the Toronto Raptors at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The Heat took a 12 point lead into the locker room but the Raptors stormed back in the third quarter and cut the Miami lead to four. They would tie that game at 72 before the Heat got rolling again. After Toronto tied the game, Miami would go on a 25-4 run and put the game away as they would cruise to a 108-91 victory. Rudy Gay had 27 points and eight rebounds in a losing effort for Toronto. LeBron James had 22 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists for Miami. They look to move into second all-time with their 23rd straight win tonight against the Boston Celtics. More here.
Scratch offensive tackle Jake Long off your wishlists, Eagles fans. The former No. 1 overall pick is headed to St. Louis. The Rams and Long agreed to a four-year deal worth up to $36 million. The 27 year old was a pro Bowler in his first four years in the league before going down with triceps injury in 2012. He was placed on injured reserve and many questioned how healthy he was. He underwent a long physical in St. Louis last week. Long had only missed two games due to injury prior to 2012 but the injuries have stockpiled and he has not been the same as the injuries grow.
