The Flyers were in D.C. yesterday taking on the Washington Capitals in a crucial Metropolitan Division matchup. The Capitals jumped out to a 2-1 lead and, after the Flyers tied it in the second period, they took a 4-2 lead to the locker rooms after the second period. The Flyers scored once on the power play in the third then Claude Giroux tied it with 1:05 remaining. Vinny Lecavalier would win it for the Flyers in overtime to snatch a big two points. More here.
The Sixers were in Orlando looking to snap their 13-game losing streak last night. The Sixers played strong basketball taking a three-point lead into the halftime locker room. It was a straight up third quarter and the Sixers took a three-point lead into the final frame. Unfortunately, despite the lead, the Sixers fell apart getting outscored 26-12 in the final frame and dropping their 14th-straight game 92-81. More here.
In the third period of yesterday's Flyers game, Brayden Schenn hit Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov with a punishing, clean hit. Orlov would retaliate by dangerously boarding Schenn sending the Flyers forward crumpling to the ice. Orlov was issued a five-minute boarding major in which the Flyers would score. The NHL Department of Player Safety has scheduled a phone hearing for Orlov on Monday. More here.
