In the Flyers' 5-4 overtime victory over the Capitals on Sunday, Washington defenseman Dmitry Orlov blasted Brayden Schenn face-first into the boards. Schenn was able to slowly skate off on his own power but Orlov was issued a five-minute boarding major. Yesterday, the NHL Department of Player Safety suspended Orlov two games for the hit. The Eagles re-signed defensive end Cedric Thornton to a one-year deal. Thornton was slated to become an exclusive rights free agent. The 25-year-old really came into his own last year in the Eagles new 3-4 defense. He registered 60 total tackles with two passes defended, one sack, and one forced fumble against the Detroit Lions. Phillies president David Montgomery was on the WIP Morning Show on Monday talking everything Phillies. The topic of the NCAA investigation came up and Montgomery cited scout "frustration" when it came to Wetzler, along with sixth-round pick Jason Monda, not signing. He was straight-forward saying "a different approach probably would've been better." More here.
