The Sixers were in action in Atlanta last night looking to snap their 10 game road losing streak. They fell behind early and could not recover their 12 point halftime deficit grew to 21 by the end of the third quarter which left the Sixers all but officially out. They would outscore the Hawks 26-16 in the fourth quarter but it was way too little, way too late as they went on to lose 107-96. Damien Wilkins led the Sixers with 21 points in 22 minutes off the bench. Jrus Holiday (11 points) and Evan Turner (2 points) shot just 4-for-19 from the field. Jeff Teague (27 points, 11 assists) and Al Horford (21 points, 12 rebounds) both registered double-doubles for the Hawks. More here.
The Villanova Wildcats welcomed another top-5 team to the Wells Fargo Center last night as the No. 5 Georgetown Hoyas came calling. The Wildcats entered last night’s contest 2-0 against Top-5 teams at the Wells Fargo Center this year knocking off previously No. 5 Louisville on January 22nd then beating No. 3 Syracuse four days later on January 26th in overtime. The Wildcats controlled play for much of the game. They took a five point lead into the locker rooms at halftime and came out in the second half and continued to break containment on the Hoyas defense. The Wildcats would go on to win 67-57 led by JayVaughn Pinkston’s 20 points and five steals. More here.
The Chicago Blackhawks were looking to extend their point streak to 24 games to start the season and 30 games dating back to last year. They were hosting the Avalanche last night at the United Center. The Blackhawks took an early 1-0 lead but Colorado would score late to tie the game after the first. Colorado’s Matt Duchene would get the only goal of the second period to give Colorado a 2-1 lead after the first period. The Blackhawks would tie in early in the third period on Jonathan Toews shorthanded goal, his 10th goal of the year. With 49.3 seconds remaining in the third period, former Flyer Dan Carcillo scored for the Blackhawks to give them a 3-2 lead which they would hold on to and win the game. It was their 11th consecutive victory and they now sit 21-0-3 on the year. More here.
