Yesterday the Phillies wrapped up their four game series with the Diamondbacks as they sent Kyle Kendrick to the mound looking for the series split. Kendrick had another great game for the Phillies with another quality start. Kendrick went seven innings allowing just two runs on six hits without walking a batter. Despite the great effort on the mound, the Phillies still trailed heading into the ninth inning. Demon Young doubled in Chase Utley and then Dom Brown singled in pinch runner John Mayberry Jr. to tie the game at 2 and force extra innings. In the 10th, Ryan Howard, who had been 0-for-17 in the series, singled home Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley to give the Phillies a 4-2 lead. Jonathan Papelbon would come in for his seventh save of the year. More here.
Sergio Garcia had a lot to say about Tiger Woods taking a club out of his bag on Saturday. As fate would have it, the two were paired together in the final round of The Player's Championship at TPC Sawgrass. The two were tied for the lead with two holes to play. Woods made par on both holes while Garcia lost his composure and went on to quadruple-bogey and double-bogey the final two holes. Woods went on to win his fourth title of the year so far. More here.
The Ducks and Red Wings faced off in a Game 7 battle last night. Henrik Zetterberg wasted no time as he put Detroit on the board just 1:49 into the game. Anaheim would tie the game later in the first period on Emerson Etem's third goal of the series. Three minutes later, Justin Abdelkader's shorthanded goal gave the Red Wings a 2-1 lead. Valtteri Filppula gave Detroit a 3-1 lead in the second period. Francois Beauchemin cut the lead to 3-2 with 3:17 remaining but that was as close as Anaheim would get as the Red Wings took Game 7 and the series. More here.
