The Phillies were looking to get Kyle Kendrick another victory last night. The Phillies jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings and gave Kendrick some room to work with. Kendrick went seven innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out six. Chase Utley blasted his seventh homerun of the year in the fifth while Ryan Howard hit his sixth homerun of the year in the ninth to give the Phillies a 6-2 lead. The Pittsburgh Penguins were taking on the Islanders last night trying to go up 3-1 in their series. Just over midway through the second period, with the game tied at two, Brandon Sutter scored to put Pittsburgh up 3-2. With under two minutes remaining in the period, Kyle Okposo tied it for the Islanders. It would not last long as Pascal Dupuis scored just 41 seconds into the third period. The Islanders would roar back behind goals from Mark Streit and John Tavares to give them a 5-4 lead. With 1:16 remaining, Casey Cizikas beat Marc-Andre Fleury on a weak goal to give the Islanders a 6-4 victory and tie the series at 2. More here.
Former Phillies starter J.A. Happ took the mound for the Toronto Blue Jays last night in Tampa. In the second inning, Happ's pitch to Desmond Jennings came back at him and hit him on the side of the head. The ball struck Happ's head so hard that it ended up in the bullpen down the right field line. Happ fell to the ground holding his head while Jennings ended up with a two-run triple on the play. He was taken off the field on a stretcher and taken to Bayview Medical Center to undergo tests. He is reportedly in stable condition this morning. More here.
