The Sixers were in Dallas taking on the Mavericks last night. The 76ers a four point halftime lead but that changed quickly in the second half. The Mavericks outscored the Sixers 31-24 in the third quarter and had a 14-4 run spanning the end of the third quarter into the fourth to give them a 79-73 lead, their largest of the game at the time. The Phillies made a splash in free agency yesterday. They re-signed catcher Carlos Ruiz. It is a three-year deal worth a reported $26 million that will keep him behind the plate until 2017. Ruiz, who turns 35 in January, will earn an annual salary of $8.6 million. More here.
The San Francisco Giants were looking to bolster their starting rotation after letting Barry Zito walk during free agency. They did just that yesterday when they signed former Braves starter Tim Hudson to a two-year, $23 million deal. It brings Hudson back to the Bay Area after breaking into the league with the Oakland A's. More here.
