The NCAA conference realignments continued yesterday. The University of Maryland left the Atlantic Coast Conference for the Big Ten for the 2014-15 season. Maryland became the 13th member of the Biog Ten. Shortly after Maryland, Rutgers announced that it would be leaving the Big East Conference for the Big Ten as well to become the 14th member. Now Boise State is reconsidering joining the Big East. More here.
Both the 49ers and the Bears were both without their starting quarterbacks last night due to concussions. 49ers’ backup Colin Kaepernick stepped in and played phenomenal. He was 16-for-23 for 243 yards and two touchdowns. The 49ers defense was stingy as the Bears, behind former Redskin quarterback Jason Campbell, could only muster seven points. The 49ers went on to win 32-7 and push their record to 7-2-1. More here.
The Drexel Dragons were dealt a huge blow yesterday as it was announced that the team’s leading scorer, senior guard Chris Fouch, fractured his ankle Saturday against Penn. Fouch will have season-ending surgery. He already used his medical redshirt in 2008-09 and will have to petition to get another one. More here.
The NHL and the NHLPA met for two hours yesterday with hopes of coming to an agreement. The league has asked the players’ association to submit another proposal hoping that the league’s third lockout under Gary Bettman can come to an end soon. More here.
