The Flyers welcomed the lowly Buffalo Sabres to the Wells Fargo Center last night. Buffalo got on the board in the first period with a power play goal from hulking defenseman Tyler Myers. The Flyers responded in the second period as Matt Read scored a pair of goals just 1:40 apart to make it a 2-1 game through two periods. Vinny Lecavalier's third period power play blast put the Flyers up 3-1 and Scott Hartnell iced it for the Flyers with an empty-netter to give the Flyers a 4-1 victory. More here.
The Phillies have hired Bob McClure to replace Rich Dubee as the team's pitching coach. Prior to joining the Phillies, the 61-year-old was the pitching coach for the Boston Red Sox for the 2012 season but was fired in on August 20, 2012 as the team endured a 69-win campaign. More here.
The Major League Baseball Players Association executive director Michael Weiner passed away yesterday at his home in Mansfield Township, New Jersey. Weiner, who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor 15 months ago, was just 51-years-old. He took over the MLBPA four years ago and was well respected around the league. More here.
