The NHL and the NHLPA met again yesterday for another five hours. Reports are that the NHLPA made two new CBA proposals to the league but it is unclear whether the league was pleased with the two proposals or not. Both sides are planning to meet again today. More here.
One of the topics being discussed is the potential addition of an amnesty clause to the new CBA. An amnesty clause would be fantastic for the Flyers who could amnesty one heavy contract (i.e. Ilya Bryzgalov). The NBA has an amnesty clause in their CBA and the Sixers exercised their amnesty option on Elton Brand in July. More here.
The Saint Joseph’s Hawks enter the season with high expectations as they are the preseason favorite to win the strong Atlantic 10 conference. Last year’s leading scorer Carl “Tay” Jones has been suspended for three games for violating the university’s community standards policy. Jones missed last night’s exhibition against Wheeling Jesuit and will miss next Friday’s game against Yale and Saturday’s game against nationally ranked Notre Dame. More here.
Number 1 overall pick Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts were on the national stage last night as they took on the Jaguars in Jacksonville on Thursday Night Football. Luck threw for 227 yards and rushed for two touchdowns in a 27-10 rout. The game was not even close and the Jaguars are a very bad team. The win pushes the Colts to 6-3 after they won two games all of last year. More here.
