The Miami Marlins have severed almost all ties with last off-season’s rebranding. It culminated yesterday with the firing of manager Ozzie Guillen after just one miserable season in South Beach. The Marlins finished 69-93 and the team still owes Guillen $7.5 million for the remaining three years on his contract that he signed last fall. More here.
The Cowboys were dealt a serious blow to their defense yesterday. Inside linebacker and Penn State product Sean Lee injured the ligament of his big toe which will require surgery. Lee leads the Cowboys in tackles and will be a big loss for Dallas in the middle of the field. He will be replaced by former Penn State teammate Dan Connor. More here.
Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen underwent heart surgery yesterday to fix an irregular heartbeat. Jansen was sidelined for much of the last two months with the heart issue which forced the Dodgers to replace him as the teams closer. The surgery was successful and he is expected to be able to return to physical activity in about a week. More here.
Hall of Fame catcher Carlton Fisk was arrested Monday night in Illinois for suspicion of DUI. The 64 year old Fisk, remembered for willing a homerun ball to stay fair, was found unconscious behind the wheel of his car in the middle of a cornfield around 7:30 pm. He was treated by a local hospital and released from custody after posting bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on November 29th. More here.
