The NBA season kicked off last night with a marquee matchup between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat. On the night the Heat received their championship rings, they were looking to get the season started off on the right foot against a perennial Eastern Conference power. The Heat scored 31 points in each of the first three quarters to help pace them en route to a 120-107 win. Celtics guard Rajon Rando ruffled a few feathers with a hard flagrant foul and he wrapped Dwyane Wade up around his neck as he went in for a layup. LeBron James ended up with 26 points and 10 rebounds. More here.
The Dallas Mavericks started their season in Los Angeles taking on the Western Conference favorite Lakers. The Mavericks, who also have a number of new faces, took it to the Lakers. New point guard Darren Collison had 17 points while Brandan Wright had 14 points for Dallas. Dwight Howard made his Lakers debut last night by kicking off the night by missing a two handed dunk. Howard dropped in 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. It was not all good for Howard as he missed 11 of the 14 free throws he attempted which made it more beneficial for Dallas to foul him than allow him to dunk it. The Mavericks went on to win 99-91.
