The Flyers opened their season last night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Brayden Schenn got the Flyers on the board with just over six seconds remaining in the first period on a power play goal off a gorgeous feed from Vinny Lecavalier, his first point as a Flyer. Mark Streit got his first point as a Flyer on the secondary assist on Schenn's goal. Unfortunately Dave Bolland netted two third period goals as the Maple Leafs went on to win 3-1. More here.
The Sixers announced Wednesday that they have scraped the "Show Ya Luv" campaign for their new "Together We Build" slogan. The slogan is going to incorporate a lot of historic Philadelphia in its billboards and other advertising. More here.
Delmon Young was playing playoff baseball last night. If that isn't enough to make you lose your breakfast, just wait. Young hit a 400-foot blast to left field in the top of the third inning to give the Tampa Bay Rays a 1-0 lead in the AL Wild Card game against the Cleveland Indians. That is all they would need as they cruised to a 4-0 win and will take on the Boston Red Sox in the ALDS. More here.
Last night reports surfaced that former Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov is close to signing a deal with the ECHL's Las Vegas Wranglers. The 32 year old Russian goaltender was 19-17-3 with a 2.79 GAA and a .900 save percentage last season for Philadelphia before being bought out in June. More here.
