The Cardinals and Pirates opened up the NLDS yesterday afternoon in St. Louis. Carlos Beltran hit a three-run home run in the third inning to put St. Louis up 3-0. They would tack on four more runs to go up 7-0 after three innings. That is all Adam Wainwright would need as St. Louis cruised to a 9-1 victory to take a 1-0 series lead. More here.
The Dodgers were in Atlanta to open up their series with the Braves in the nightcap. A steady dose of runs through the first four innings put the Dodgers up 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth and the reigning NL Cy Young Clayton Kershaw was dealing. He struck out 12 en route to a 6-1 Dodgers victory. More here.
The Cincinnati Reds lost their NL Wild Card game to the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 on Tuesday. Just three days later manager Dusty Baker, who had been with the team since 2008, was fired just one year after signing a contract extension. More here.
