The Flyers announced yesterday that they fired head coach Peter Laviolette after the team missed the playoffs last season and began the year 0-3-0. Assistant coach Craig Berube was hired as the team's 18th head coach in franchise history. More here.
The Dodgers were looking to advance to their first NLCS since 2009 and had the Braves on the brink of elimination last night. With the Braves leading 3-2, Juan Uribe hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to put Los Angeles up 4-3. They would hold on and eliminate the Braves to advance to the NLCS. The New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons squared off on Monday Night Football last night. Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith was 16-for-20 (80.0%) for 199 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Trailing 28-27 with under two minutes remaining, he led the Jets down the field and into field goal range where Nick Folk hit the game-winning 40 yard field goal to give New York the 30-38 victory.
