The Flyers were looking for their first win of the year last night against the Panthers in Craig Berube's head coaching debut. They got out to a fast start as Brayden Schenn put the Flyers on the board less than five minutes into the game then, two and a half minutes later, Braydon Coburn gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead. The Phillies announced they are bringing back Larry Bowa and Pete Mackanin to be coaches on manager Ryne Sandberg's staff. Bowa is being brought back to be the Phillies bench coach while Mackanin, who was the Phillies bench coach from 2009-2012, is coming back as the team's new third base coach. More here.
The Boston Red Sox were looking to avoid a deciding fifth game of the ALDS against the Rays last night. After falling behind 1-0 to the Rays, Boston scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 2-1 lead. They would load the bases against Tampa closer Fernando Rodney and score an insurance run in the top of the ninth to go on to win 3-1. They're making their first ALCS appearance since 2008. More here.
