The Eagles kicked off the Chip Kelly era last night in Landover against the Washington Redskins. Kelly came out firing on all cylinders. The Eagles ran an incredible 53 plays in the first half and amassed 322 yards of total offense after two quarters. Vick threw for 171 yards in the first half and, due to the Eagles taking their foot off the gas after halftime, he ended up going 15-for-25 (60.0%) for 203 yards and two touchdowns through the air and one on the ground as they would win 33-27. The Flyers made a splash last night following the Eagles game coming to terms with RW Daniel Cleary on a three year, $8.25 million deal. Cleary, 34, played in 48 games last season for the Red Wings scoring nine times and dishing out six assists. He made it clear that he did not want to leave Detroit where he had played since 2005 but the Flyers offer was too good to turn down. More here.
The other Monday Night Football game last night featured the San Diego Chargers and Houston Texans. The Chargers stormed out to a 21-7 halftime lead then went up 28-7 just over four minutes into the second half. Houston would make a charge scoring late in the third quarter then tying the game on two touchdowns just five and a half minutes into the fourth. The Texans would eventually win 31-28 on a 41-yard field goal with no time left on the clock. More here.
