The Phillies got taken to task by the Padres last night. San Diego exploded for 12 hits through the first five innings while starting pitcher Andrew Cashner went 7.2 innings allowing just two runs. Cody Asche hit his fifth home run of the year while catcher Cameron Rupp got his first Major League hit on an infield single. Phillies went on to lose 8-2. More here.
The Flyers have signed former Detroit Red Wings winger Daniel Cleary to a professional try-out contract. Cleary, 34, played in 48 games last season for the Red Wings scoring nine times and dishing out six assists. He made it clear that he did not want to leave Detroit where he had played since 2005 but the Flyers opportunity was too good to turn down. More here.
Detroit Lions defenseive lineman Ndamukong Suh hits hard but the NFL hit him pretty hard yesterday. The league fined Suh $100,000 for his hit on Vikings center John Sullivan during a DeAndre Levy interception return. The Lions touchdown was taken off the field for Suh's penalty for a low block away from the play. He has been fined but will not be suspended. More here.
