The Phillies were looking to win their series against the Padres last night at Citizens Bank Park with Roy Halladay on the mound. Doc was shaky allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits with five walks and six strikeouts. He left with the lead but didn't earn the win because he didn't pitch five innings. Carlos Ruiz went 3-for-3 with a double, two walks, three RBIs and a run scored as the Phillies rolled to a 10-5 victory. More here.
The New England Patriots squared off against the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football last night. Tom Brady threw for 185 yards and a touchdown wwhile Jets QB Geno Smith threw for 214 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions (two to Aqib Talib). The Patriots took a 13-3 lead to halftime and never looked back as they cruised to a 13-10 victory to move to 2-0 on the year. More here.
Sam Hinkie and the 76ers made a number of people around the area very happy last night. The Sixers will sign former Temple star Khalif Wyatt to a partially-guaranteed multi-year contract. Wyatt played on the 76ers summer league team in Orlando averaging a team-best 13.8 points per game. More here.
The Sixers have added another piece to their roster. They have signed point guard Darius Morris to a partially-guaranteed contract for this upcoming season. The 6'4" Morris spent the last two seasons with the Lakers after being selected in the second round of the 2011 draft by Los Angeles. More here.
