The Phillies looked to snap a five-game losing streak last night in Miami taking on the Marlins. Phillies starter Zach Miner allowed one run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts in four innings pitched. Chase Utley was sharp on Tuesday going 1-for-2 with a run scored and two walks. The Phillies went on to beat the Marlins 2-1 for the Marlins' 100th loss of the season. More here.
The NCAA announced that Penn State will receive back scholarships that were removed from the program in wake of the Jerry Sandusky Child Sex Abuse case. The initial reductions was a loss of 15 scholarships a year, and brought Penn State down to 65 scholarships per year. The NCAA announced today that Penn State will have 75 available scholarships in 2014-2015, 80 in 2015-2016, and will be back to 85 in the 2016-2017 season. Under the full sanctions, Penn State would not be back to the normal 85 scholarships until 2019. More here.
Fantasy football owners cringed yesterday when news came down that Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson, who put up 113 yards receiving on Sunday, broke his forearm in two spots in a one vehicle accident early Tuesday morning. Burleson will undergo surgery today to repair the fractures and there is no timetable for his return just yet. More here.
