The Phillies had a great game yesterday in Atlanta. Cole Hamels threw six no-hit innings but was lifted from the game after throwing 108 pitches. Jake Diekman came in and threw a perfect seventh inning. Ken Giles follow that up by striking out the side in the eighth. Jonathan Papelbon shut the door with a 1-2-3 ninth inning for the first combined no-hitter in Phillies history. It was the team's first no-hitter since Roy Halladay's in the 2010 NLDS. Ben Revere drove in a career-high five RBIs as the Phillies won 7-0.
Phillies will call up third baseman Maikel Franco as part of their September call ups. Franco will likely be one of five players to be called up and the 22-year-old would become the youngest Phillies position player to make his debut since Jimmy Rollins in 2000. Franco could start as early as Tuesday in Atlanta. More here.
The Phillies announced Sunday night they have traded outfielder John Mayberry Jr. to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for minor league third baseman Gustavo Pierre. More here.
