The NFL kicked off last night with the defending Super Bowl champion Ravens visiting the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Broncos quarterback had a night for the ages. With Baltimore leading 17-14, Manning came out in the second half with something to prove and did it by throwing for four unanswered touchdowns to open up a 42-17 lead. Manning became the sixth quarterback, and the first since 1969, to throw for seven touchdowns as the Broncos went on to win 49-27. More here.
Eagles cornerback Cary Williams and wide receiver Riley Cooper got into a scuffle yesterday at practice. Williams was covering Cooper when they two started to jaw in each other's faces. Moments later the two were slapping each other's helmets before cornerback Brandon Boykin jumped in to break it up. Williams had to be held back by quarterback Michael Vick. DeSean Jackson and an assistant coach talked to Cooper to calm him down before returning to action while Williams was sent to the sideline to "cool off." More here.
Just prior to the start of the 2013 season, the Ravens rewarded their Super Bowl winning coach with a new contract replacing the current one that still had two years remaining. John Harbaugh signed a new four-year deal worth $7 million annually to remain as Ravens head coach. He took over the position in 2008 after spending the previous ten seasons coaching with the Eagles.
