The Eagles surprisingly fired vice president of player personnel Tom Gamble on Tuesday although the team announced it as a mutual parting. Gamble was reportedly escorted out of the Eagles facility.
The aftershocks of the firing are still being felt.
It's no secret that there has been some discord between head coach Chip Kelly and general manager Howie Roseman. Birds 24/7's Tim McManus wrote in-depth on the dynamic between the two and the brewing power struggle back in November. It appears to be coming to a head.
On Friday, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio tweeted that a "plugged-in league source senses there could be 'something big' going on in Philly in the aftermath of Tom Gamble's departure." On the heels of that tweet, former WIP man Darren DeGaetano reported "Kelly has expressed interest in getting out of his contract."
Florio later was on 97.5 The Fanatic but could not expand on his report in order to "protect his sources" and only added "I don't know" when asked about what "something big" could be.
There has not been much more substantial regarding the issue inside the Eagles but one thing is for certain, the organization has done nothing to eliminate the doubt. With every minute that passes, their silence grows more and more concerning. McManus added late Friday, "My understanding is that there is a move forthcoming, but it doesn't involve the departure of either Kelly or Roseman."
The future of the team, and organization, seems to be in limbo. What happens next - who knows. Buckle up.
