"I want to get a chance to put my helmet on whatever's hurt, Romo's ribs - I'm going to be asking for some corner blitzes. If I know Felix Jones' shoulder's hurt, I'm not going to cut him. I'm definitely going to try to hit him up high, so that's just part of it. If you know something's wrong with an opponent, you're going to try to target in on that. We're going to try to definitely get as many hits on that team as possible."
Let’s clarify something here. I am not oblivious to the truth of these statements. This is how it is each and every Sunday but you don’t announce that to the media. If this is your plan, keep it to yourself! How dumb can you be? It is no secret that the NFL is trying to crackdown on injuries to the QB with more and more “touch” penalties on defensive players hitting quarterbacks. If DeAngelo Hall wanted to do this without getting caught, he should have kept his mouth shut. What he actually did was slap a target on his back for referees to watch out for him and his hits on Romo. He should be smarter than that.
"I want the best of the best and he is the best. I hope Michael Vick plays, because at the end of the day, I don't want any excuses when we go down to Philly and put it to them the way we will.”
This isn’t as bad as Hall’s comments but they are still dumb nonetheless. I understand he is trying to fire up his team but, again, don’t go to the media to do it. In their last six matchups, including the postseason, the Giants are 0-6 against the Eagles. The most recent loss coming with the Giants leading 31-10 with 7:30 remaining in the fourth quarter only to watch the Eagles leave New Meadowlands Stadium with a 38-31 win in regulation.
That is an embarrassing loss and I’m sure the Giants feel like they have something to prove but be smart. Rolle has nothing to base that prediction on. On the past? Yeah that isn’t working. On what they have done this year? If you’re trying to win a contest to see who can have the most players on a injury report then go ahead. But Rolle also is calling out one of the men responsible for giving the Eagles that 38-31 win. Rolle said,
“I have handled DeSean Jackson one-on-one before, and I don't see why I can't handle him again."
Um what? When? Rolle is entering his fifth season in the NFL and second with the Giants. He has played against the Eagles four times in his career and, here’s the kicker, has defended exactly 1 pass. Only one pass defended. When have you “handled” DeSean Jackson? Did you handle him as he was running down the sidelines as time expired on December 19th? Maybe you handled him when he was a rookie and you were playing for the Cardinals in 2008 when he reeled in 6 balls for 76 yards on Thanksgiving or 6 catches for 92 yards in the playoffs? I am struggling to find a time when Rolle handled Jackson.
Regardless, Rolle should think before he runs his mouth. If he did think, he wouldn’t have made these dumb statements and would have done all of us a favor by keeping his mouth shut.
Athletes should really think before they start talking.
