Football season is a grind. Like we saw last week and then last night, ups and downs. You will inevitably get hot and ride a win streak to a nice week. Of course you will blow all of those winnings on drinks, dinner, and maybe a “massage” at the local spa. Common sense would be say to sock away 25% of those winnings to cover future down weeks, but you know that you’ll never have a bad week again so whats it matter? Much like your 7th grade field trip, minus feeling up a girl on the bus for the first time, I recommend the buddy system. Having a person to talk through a game with, see the other angles, and to keep you from emotionally betting on a loser when you run cold is important.
There is a great feeling when you are sitting at the New Britain Inn (376 W. Butler Ave, New Britain PA 18901) enjoying some phenomenal wings for 10 hours on a Saturday and betting the board with a buddy. These were my favorite Saturdays and should serve as a prophylactic to all you young guys who enjoy their freedom. You celebrate the win together, and blame everything but your shitty pick and inability to look outside the Top 25 for the losses. For those who know me, I sat at this bar for the whole day and would talk to my Uncle Radar before each of the 12,3,6,and 8pm slates. I felt selfish keeping it all to myself so I asked him to share it with you all. Each week Uncle Radar will be using his veteran knowledge to bring you a pick, and a few thoughts on how our generation differs when it comes to sports as a whole.
Bowling Green/Maryland OVER 71. This game is ripe for the 3 way as well, but official play will be the game total. Bowling Green has a good QB, a fast paced offense, and a subpar defense. Matt Johnson threw for over 400 yards on Tennessee last week, and if not for giving up 399 yards on the ground the Falcons win that game. Maryland is trying to show they belong in the Big 10 and with their potent run game you should see chunk yardage and a score somewhere around 48-45.
Buffalo @ Penn State -19.5 – Last Saturday was a tough day to be a PSU alum. Watching my team run the same option play with no success for a full half was just sickening. PSU looked like a bottom 5 team in College Football. This line opened at 22 and has dropped to 19.5, and that’s fine with me. The team was embarrassed last week and now goes home to Beaver Stadium to play a Buffalo team that can score a little bit but still outclassed. The offensive line won’t give up 10 sacks and the play calling will be stronger this week. The public loves to overreact to wins and losses each week and this is a prime example of why to take the Nittany Lions.
Temple @ Cincinnati -6.5 – great game by the Owls last week, but going on the road to the class of the conference this has let down written all over it. Cinci should put up 38+ on this team, and you can be sure Temple’s QB won’t be dinking his way down the field. Again, overreaction to a Win last week can cost you money here.
Miami -3.5 @ Washington – a lot of road favorites in Week 1 but Washington is a mess. This game is 2 teams going in opposite directions and looks to match up nicely for Ryan Tannehill. I still recommend buying the half point to 3, but Miami is a better team on both sides of the ball. The Washington D will struggle to get off the field, and Cousins will make sure they are out there a lot. The Dolphins passing game can score, and the run game will close out a win.
Eagles - 2 @ Atlanta – The Birds will be favored in their first 6 games this season. They tend to struggle a bit in Week 1, and being in Atlanta could present an issue. From what ESPN tells us, Matty Ice is going to have a great year! The same bold prediction that is made every August. It’s also easy to see why the Eagles have become the sexy pick for the talking heads this year. Our offense looks great and the defense has been solidified. While Week 1 is tricky, I get the feeling if this game was played a month from now you’d be looking at Birds -7. Birds 38-17

A Few Words About Fantasy Football
When you come down to it picking games is pretty easy ; you have two choices ,one is a winner, one is a loser it's really that simple. The point spread or the money line clouds your decision and so does Fantasy Football, and that's why bookmakers love it. Subliminally it affects the way you take a loss. Most of the time you pick a winner you are thinking clear and have a strong commitment to your side or total…you have a moment of clarity. So when you lose a bet by a half point but you say "at least Romo got 45 points and I won my fantasy game", you justify the 110 or so you lost to the bookmaker so you can email your buddy to tell him how you kicked his ass. Wow that must really be fun. But that 100 loss could begin the spiral to where you’re lying to your wife about how you need to lend your brother $2,500 so he doesn't lose his house. The point is that once you start justifying a loss you lose some edge, maybe just 1% or so but it adds to the advantage the bookmaker already has. You don't want to help him believe me. By the way all you ''DIE HARD EAGLE FANS" if you have Romo, Bryant, or Witten on your fantasy team your rooting for the Cowboys EVERY WEEK. Grow up
Dallas/Giants OVER 51.To paraphrase Morrie from Goodfellas "but I've been cultivating this game since the schedule came out". It's the game all Eagle fans love to hate. Dallas vs. NY, hard to root for a side here. Goodell needs to get the fans and media off his ass and what better way than to give them a 38 - 35 thriller to close out opening Sunday. As long as Romo & Eli show up and not Bad Comedian Eli and Arts And Craftsy Romo, the game will be a shootout. Don't let the total scare you, it's 51 as of this writing (it will only go up) neither team can stop anyone, So enjoy The Arrest Waiting To Happen (Dez Bryant ) and Beckham Jr. trying to out Diva each other. If you’re up for the week you might what to think about a 3 way.
