The NBA has a reputation of being a superstar driven league, and many people think that way. It is hard to get past this reputation when every time Lebron, Dwight Howard, or Blake Griffin dunk, it is a top 10 play on ESPN. ESPN shoves these superstars, and others, in fans faces as the only players who are worth watching. However, this is what drove me away from the NBA in the first place. The lack of team basketball bored me, and I turned to NCAA basketball. Now, however, the Sixers are winning without a "superstar." They play team basketball. They have 7 players averaging double figures in scoring. They are one of 4 teams that are still undefeated at home. They are third in points per game, and second in points against. They have all their wins by double digits, and their three losses are by a combined 13 points. And only one team in the NBA (OKC) has less losses, 2.
This Sixers team plays well together. They win by playing defense and finding the open man on offense. There is no superstar to make the team feel like they need to be getting the ball to a specific player. And while they continue playing this brand of basketball, I will continue to watch. And who knows, I might become a fan.
The Sixers play tonight at home vs. the Denver Nuggets (9-5) at 7pm
